Relative Right!

A small conversation between me and my 6 year old nephew on our way to the market to buy candies for him!

“Maki…”
I glanced at him, sitting moodily on the passenger seat, expression of deep thought on his face.
“Yeah?”
“Is it true that God is present everywhere?”
“Yes it is.”
A thoughtful pause and then, “So it means he is in me as well!”
“Yes he is. God lives in everybody. The soul is divided, parted by mystical forces of good and evil. Every human soul has those two parts…The good or GOD and the bad or EVIL. We all have god and evil within us.”
“So good is God and bad is Evil?”
“That’s right!”
“So I have evil in me?” the voice a tad shrill.
“Well evil is not present in kids. Their hearts are pure and only god resides there!”
“So Maki…if God lives in me then he would make me do all the good things. But when I do the things that I think are good then everybody shouts at me. I do well but for all of them it is bad…so how is god for me evil for the rest?”

At that point all I can say is I was thankful we reached the market. For I had no answers. Do you?

hmm... the fact that this kid asked you this question because God wanted to ask you this question...

and wanted to ask all of us this question... strange ways God has...

about how to answer it... maybe this is how he teaches us... we do things the way we want.. but because we are either associated, dependent, tied to so many people they would have different effect on different people.. and how they react is because of how God/Evil in them makes them react...

i am still thinking though !!!

Thought provoking but I don't have an answer either.

And you know what, I remember being disappointed when I never got the answers to my questions at that age.

Doesn't this good God hold any consulting sessions for kids? :)

@ Prashant

So God in Kishu asked me a question and God in me replied to the question and in the process taught me a lesson which was???

Its just that Why God...a universal entity becomes Evil for someone? What is it that we see and what is it that never meets the eye?

Well Kids do say the most amazing things...

@ Richa

Ha ha. I understand what you mean and trust me I try everytime to appease his queries, answer them in all faithfulness. I do admit I try to answer in big words so he would be lost but seldom the trick backfires for he would ask me something in return that would render me speechless.

I bet God does have the consultancy sesions for many times I find him answering my worries in his miraculaous ways!

You know, when I wrote that last line I added 'for kids' at the last moment because I know that I get a lot of answers when I'm looking for it and I never take appointments. :-)

I can understand ur delima but I believe that he was asking very practical question that if sumthing is good for someone that how that thing can be bad for other person ...

but...

after so much of brain stroming i found a self satisfying ans ..but again this is applicable to me ONLY

I think everything is good but it is in our thinking that this thing is bad for us ..but everything happen to us is good cos that help us in learning ..

may be we human are not open enuf to accept with open arms ..

Hmm... I have an answer, but it will start a big discussion. So, I refrain.

A very thoughtful post, but providing an answer to your question seems impossible. I enjoyed reading though.

Why, WHY is it tough to do what one wants and not think about good/bad? Man, even 6 yr olds are thinking the same..

And why is SubhaDa not sharing his "answer"?

@ deepti...
Well yes it is kind of very weird...to accept everything as good!!! But as wise men before you have often said...Whatever happens, happens for the best. There is no doubt some good is everything

@ subhadip
And why would you refrain? Since when did you start shying away from a good healthy discussion. Pray answer...I am dying to read it!

@ butterfly

Its not difficult to answer at all. Its all about relativity. Good is God and Evil is Wrong...The only problem with the answer is how do I explain this to a six year old? How am I to make him understand that Evil is nothing but the myth surrounding god! How do I make him understand what is right can be wrong? And most importantly how am I to explain how to make your own call...
Am glad you liked reading it :)

@ rohit

True...batao tension kahan nahin hain!!!
And I agree...Subhadip should should answer.....I am all curosity.

I don't believe in the existence of God. Haven't for many years now. So let me not attempt to answer this. With every disgusting specimen of ultra religious, god-fearing person that I meet, my cynicism keeps growing. (This was in no way an attack on your religiosity though. And wasn't meant to be offensive, but if it has offended you, I apologize.)
